A couple of weeks ago during CRT with Islay, Ata Hāpara teina dived into the world of mandalas!

We started by learning how mandalas use repeating patterns to create beautiful, eye-catching images. Then, it was time to get hands-on. We gathered natural materials like leaves and flower petals, carefully arranging them on paper to practice our symmetry skills. Once everything looked perfectly balanced, we glued them down with PVA. Check out some of our amazing creations below. Ka pai tō mahi, teina!

What an exciting post! Using treasures from nature, like leaves and petals, is such a wonderful way to make art. Making your patterns match up on both sides and look balanced must have taken a lot of concentration and care. Glueing them down with PVA is a sticky business, but you did an amazing job! Ka pai tō mahi!
I would love to have a go at making colourful mandalas from nature’s treasures, like yours.

I love the patterns in Mandalas. I’m sure it was fun gathering the leaves and petals from the school gardens to create your own nature mandalas. I can see from the great photos that you made wonderful symmetrical patterns.
Maybe this is something you could do at home with your whanau to celebrate Matariki?
