A huge thank you to everyone who came along to help during clean up week, all together we managed to fill x8 sacks full of rubbish from our local park. Well done koutou! Papatuanuku will be healthier thanks to your efforts. Remember plastic pollution is an ongoing threat to our environment, and it will help us all in the long run to keep NZ New Zealand Beautiful. See website for more info on how to stay active in your community. https://www.knzb.org.nz/
This week we were lucky enough to have one of our amazing parents come into class to show us how to make our own flowers out of plastic bottles! We will also be making jelly fish out of plastic bottles next week. A massive thank you and mihinui to Angela for your time with us.
We have really been putting our RISE values into action on the playground and have filled up the token box. The most voted for activity was to have a bouncy castle day. So, that is what we did. We had so much fun on the bouncy castles!
This week we made how to videos to show how we made our piggy banks for our recycling crafts project. Click the link below the picture to see Kymani, Bella-Rose and Zaniyas video. Well done girls!
This week we have been learning about the importance of spreading the word and raising the awareness of conservation.
Our teina have done a great job to create different items to help share their message. Their creations range from heater Jibbitz to remind people to turn off the heater when they leave the room to washing mashing magnets to remind people to hang out their washing instead of using the dryer.
Check out some of our creations below.
This week our ākonga got creative to re-purpose plastic bottles to make their own piggy banks. There are many ways to reuse our plastic waste and is a great way to put the 3R’s into action while having lots of fun.
We have been learning all about how to be kaitiaki in our homes by conserving our natural resources.
As a create task, tamariki are making dioramas to show what they are going to be doing with their whānau. Our dioramas needed to be made with resources we could find around the kura. e.g old paper, paints that were almost all gone, popsicle sticks from another art project, we even found some leftover turf that we turned into grass for our parks.
On Friday we were super excited to share our creating with some of our tuākana and have them help us. Check out what they got up to.
Ngā mihinui ki ngā whānau i haere mai ki te tautoko i tō mātou mahinga poi i tēra wiki. A huge thanks to all the families who came and helped during our poi making night last week. You helped our class save about $3,000 in poi making costs so we are ever grateful for your support. We look forward to putting them to good use during kapahaka, watch this space for updates on new poi waiata coming soon.
This week we had Whaea Kim join the teina to learn about the pūrakau Matariki.
Whaea Kim tells the pūrakau while involving all of our senses. Tamariki get to hear the sounds of our Atua, smell Pohutukawa, taste things that grow under the protection of Haumiatikitiki and Rongomatane. All while they watch the story unfold in fornt of them as Whaea Kim uses props to support the story.
We had so much fun!
What have you been doing to celebrate Matariki?
